Senior Lifting Equipment Engineer

Petroplan are currently recruiting for a Senior Lifting Equipment Engineer to join a local operating company based in Dubai.
Job Purpose
Accountable for the safe operation of lifting equipment in Dubai Petroleum Establishment and Dubai Supply Authority.
Key Accountabilities:

  • The Senior Lifting Equipment Engineer will be appointed as the Technical Authority for all offshore and onshore lifting equipment. This includes cranes (pedestal, king post, rental and overhead type) and all other mechanical handling aids.
  • Point of contact for technical design queries and for coordinating access to further specialist engineering advice as and when required.
  • Supporting inspection, maintenance, defects and troubleshooting as required.
  • Regular review of Company’s Lifting Operations Standards and update as required.
  • Build and maintain excellent client and vendor relationships and ensure that all service standards are met.
  • Act on behalf of the Company, making full use of lifting technical expertise, when required. Identify any possible lifting equipment improvement opportunities and advise on realization and implementation of those opportunities.
  • Maintain the highest level of quality control in line with continued Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and Operations.
  • Manage the ‘Offshore’ Crane Replacement / Major Overhaul Projects end to end. This will include all aspects from preparation of a business case through to installation / commissioning.
  • Ensure that Load Radius Charts are updated and appropriate for individual cranes.
  • Review, modify and approve Lifting Plans prepared by rigging specialists and approve third party rigging plans for complex lifts. Plan and arrange all work related activities in a safe, effective, timely and efficient manner.
  • Prepare dispensations to allow safe lifting of items that cannot be lifted under the usual Company lifting practices.
  • Identify and update safety critical elements associated with lifting equipment in conjunction with the Asset Integrity team.
  • Support activities related to Maintenance Strategy and Performance Standard, when required.
  • Travel offshore as and when the job requires including staying multiple days if operationally required.


Educational Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in Mechanical / Structural Engineering.
Experience Profile:

  • 10 years’ experience of supporting crane operations and lifting equipment care within a Production and Maintenance Operation, preferable in an offshore or other remote location.
  • Extensive experience with offshore pedestal cranes is essential.
  • Experience in the use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) would be an advantage.

What We’re Looking For:

  • PhD or master’s degree minimum in Economics, with 5-10 years of work experience

Position Summary

The LSEG Oil Research team is providing market insight, analysis and instantaneous access to clients interested in the crude oil, refined products and shipping sector by continuously supervising global supply and demand, trade flows, infrastructure outages, derivatives market and other financial activities.

  • A masters or technical specialization / certification would be an advantage.
  • Very strong experience of at least 8-10 years in the physical oil markets or a research house, either as a trader or analyst, with strong understanding in market fundamentals and the oil/shipping market value chain. Candidates with experience in the Refining sector or trading operations are also encouraged to apply.
  • Extensive network of physical trading contacts in EMEA.
  • Understanding of financial markets, and their impact on the oil industry.
  • Preferred candidates will demonstrate ability to communicate market insights in clear and concise style through reports, presentations, and webinars.
  • Confirmed ability to conduct, analyze, and report primary research.
  • Strong grounding in statistics.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a talented, passionate and motivated Principal Sustainability Consultant to join our award-winning team in Dubai, to work and lead on some of the most exciting sustainable projects in MENA and around the world. 

In this new role you will be working closely under the guidance and supervision of our Head of Sustainability MENA who is based in the Dubai office. You will develop your existing knowledge and skills in Sustainability, Project Management, and Building physics and assist with the development of energy and sustainability strategies for buildings and businesses. 

There will be a strong emphasis on business development and industry leadership and you will be required to quickly assimilate the innovative services we have developed so that you can use these to promote our services and wider Cundall capacity in the local market.  

Working closely with colleagues of various disciplines, you will design, analyse, report, document and lead on Sustainability & Building Physics projects as well as present to clients. You will work across a variety of sectors and will have the opportunity over time to assume greater levels of responsibility and autonomy as we support the development of your professional skills. 

You will be responsible for client management and project delivery for our key work streams: 

  • Building physics and parametric model services 
  • Building performance and operational energy optimisation 
  • Certification and compliance 
  • Health and wellbeing advice and guidance 
  • Net zero carbon services 
  • Sustainability design services 
  • Sustainable Strategy and Governance 

The Skills

Educated to Master’s level (or equivalent) in Engineering or the Built Environment, you will have gained relevant practical experience in a similar role, and demonstrable knowledge and experience of sustainability and building physics, particularly in relation to thermal comfort, passive design, compliance modelling and real operational energy assessments.  

Knowledge of dynamic simulation software, mechanical design, UAE / International Building Regulations, Planning issues, climate-based daylighting analysis, operational energy calculation and life cycle carbon costing is highly desirable. 

An understanding of financial and resource management is critical. 

Given the collaborative and client focussed nature of this role, excellent communication skills and experience of using your initiative to overcome challenges are essential. 

  • Engineering, Architecture or built environment-related degree. 
  • LEED Accredited Professional. 
  • PMP or equivalent Management degree. 
  • 10 to 14 years of experience within ESD consulting in the built environment sector. 
  • The ability to lead projects and more junior staff and positively represent the business. 
  • Experience with preparing strategy, implementation and certification of best practice schemes, including LEED, Mostadam, Estidama, GSAS, BREEAM and WELL. 
  • Advanced Experience in building physics modeling (Energy, Daylight, Comfort, Parametrics) in general, and IES-VE software in specific. 
  • Solid understanding of the relevant industry codes across the region. 
  • Possess a body of knowledge allowing you to evaluate ESD attributes and opportunities within designs, and where improvements are required (mechanical, façade, spatial etc). 
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills. 
  • Strong Presentation & Reporting skills. 
  • Excellent Organizational, Time Management & Resource Management skills. 
  • Client liaison and relationship management throughout various stages of a project. 
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, effectively planning to meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to manage the various sustainability aspects of complex design and construction projects, with aspiring Net-Zero carbon targets. 

Preferable, but not essential 

  • Estidama PQP/ WELL AP / Mostadam AP. 
  • Familiarity with Architectural modelling software platforms, including Revit, Sketchup & Rhino. 
  • Experience with Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) using E-tool or equivalent software. 
  • Experience with ESG and Corporate Sustainability principles.
